Three of the nation's largest health insurers have announced expanded coverage for telehealth-based mental health services, effective July 2026. The plans will cover unlimited virtual therapy sessions with licensed providers at the same copay rate as in-person visits.
The move follows sustained demand for remote mental health care and pressure from advocacy groups arguing that telehealth access reduces barriers for rural and underserved populations.
Industry analysts estimate the policy change will affect approximately 60 million insured Americans and could increase utilization of mental health services by 20 percent.
